January 2010
Upgraded our systems to N-Central version 7.0.
New features include remote support for Vista and Windows 7, and a new Endpoint Protection
antivirus / anti-spam application that is administered and monitored centrally using the N-Central console.
Launched email and phone marketing efforts for our Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) packages.

Received a contract to help an oil refinery archive its applications
and databases in preparation for final shutdown.
Replaced a legacy client firewall with a pair of ASA firewalls supporting both IPSEC and SSL VPN clients,
Radius authentication and automatic failover.
This allows secure VPN connection from a 64-bit Vista home laptop.
Installed and tested 64-bit Windows 7 on a development laptop.
Rebuilt a local test domain controller under Windows 2003.
Diagnosed switch failures at a client site, and cleaned up viruses on a couple of workstations there.
Pushed out a newer version of Internet Explorer to all workstations and updated group policy for that.
Set up a scheduled weekly reboot for all workstations, administered from the RMM console.
Configured default Word templates for a client's newly upgraded Office 2007 environment,
and diagnosed an issue with reminders not being deleted properly in Outlook 2007.
Tuned up and added memory to a client's home PC, increasing the efficiency
enough to drop the boot time from 7 minutes down to 2 minutes.
Revived another client's dead application server machine, using utilities to get it to boot again
and getting them back up and running within 24 hours.
Researched failures of Yosemite tape backup software at a client site,
tracking it to an improperly modified configuration file.
Corrected the file to get the tape backups working again.

Completed infrastructure improvements for a medical provider in Middletown, including...
- Installation of a new wireless router for the second floor of their office building.
- Installation of all require premises wiring to offices.
- Installation and configuration of two analog phone lines using the Atlantic Broadband IPS services.
- Upgrade of existing wireless access point of the first floor of building.
- Generation of office network diagram and documentation of device configurations.

Set up and configured a VPN capability to connect all of
a doctor's remote office location sites together.

Entered a partnership with TheGreenBow for reselling VPN client application software.

Completed a client domain upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003.
Replaced legacy WAN router with a Layer-3 core switch and added VLAN infrastructure.

Configured our local network to be able to provide internet-based backups to our managed services clients.

Prepared proposals for two potential new RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) clients.

Rewrote a process calc script to take advantage of javascript array objects, and to pull mailing lists and sample point definitions from database tables rather than hard-coding.
Added an MS Access data entry form and menu option for maintaining the database tables.

Developed a common infrastructure to record plant process-related email notifications in a database table.

Gathered requirements for, researched and developed a plan for a new plant tank database
to replace several Excel spreadsheets and pull additional tank data in automatically from other existing plant systems.

Added several new database schemas to an existing Oracle backup/export system.
Researched and documented SQL Server database instances on a client server cluster.

Added automated https redirect to a client's public member access internet pages, for secure data transmittal.

Located, tested, and configured a VPN client for a medical provider's linksys router.

Built new Windows 2003 domain controllers to upgrade a client's Windows 2000 domain.
Also converted this client from a Symantec antivirus system to Sunbelt Vipre.

Set up new Windows Vista laptops at a client site.
Resolved an issue with 64-bit Vista not receiving antivirus updates from the Symantec server.

Added a third public wireless internet access point for customer use at a client auto dealership.
Monitor network, server, and workstation status
for a multi-site automotive dealership under a Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) contract.
Respond to on-call issues as needed.
Provide access to the monitoring interface for client use via the public internet.
Provide systems and network support for a large multi-node Foxboro I/A server network.
Manage monitoring tools to track, report and notify clients of
problems with servers, devices, and network utilization.
Provide network and system administrative support for a small business client.
Perform Windows updates and patches using WSUS. Resolve day-to-day issues
with printers, e-mail, server backups, and logon accounts.
Provide network and systems support for a mid-size retail dealership. Remove viruses as needed.
Resolve OutLook Express e-mail issues. Support iPrism internet filtering appliance.
Monitor and maintain production SQL Server instances, including backup jobs, scheduled
report delivery, and data replication. Develop custom queries and data views
to support business reporting needs.
